1. What cookies are and how they are used

A cookie is a piece of text that websites send to the user's Internet browser. "session" cookies are stored in the user’s computer for technical-functional purposes, to transmit session identifiers needed to allow a safer and better site browsing; they delate at the end of the "session" by closing the browser. This kind of cookie prevents from other IT techniques potentially detrimental for the users browsing privacy;
"persistent" cookies are stored in the terminal hardware until their deadline or cancellation by the users/visitors. The use of persistent cookies allows to keep track of visitors browsing the site (or possible different users by means of the same terminal) automatically at each visit. Persistent cookies satisfy many functions in the interest of users (i.e. language selection or items in a shopping basket. However, persistent cookies can be used with promotional or even illegal purposes. Users can set up the computer browser so that it accepts/refuses all cookies or displays a notice every time a cookie is suggested, in order to evaluate if to accept it or not. The user is enabled to modify the default setting and disable cookies (that is to say permanently), by setting up the highest protection level.
These two cookie types (session and persistent) may also be in turn:
"first party" when managed directly by the owner and/or managers of the website
"third party" when cookies are set up and managed outside the website visited by the user.

2. How to enable and disable cookies

The mode of operation as well as all options to limit of block cookies can be set by modifying the settings of the internet browser. 3. List of cookie present on the SPS Italia websites

As reported in paragraph 1, besides session and persistent, there are third party cookies. These are under the direct and exclusive liability of the manager and fall under the following macro categories:
Analitycs. These cookies help us collect and analyze statistics on access/visits to the website. In some cases, if associated to other data such as access credentials to reserved areas (email address and password), can be used to identify users (personal habits, browsed websites, downloaded contents, interactions made etc.). For example, in order to obtain aggregate statistical data, needed to evaluate the use of a website and the actions taken by a user, Google Inc. stores the information collected by the cookie, on servers located in the US or other countries. Google agrees to transfer data collected by the cookie to third parties, should legal obligations require it, or if a third party processes data on its behalf. Google guarantees not to associate the IP address of the user to any of the data collected in order to obtain a more detailed user profile.
